The essence of interior design will always be about people and how they live.

Meet Chetna

Chetna Baveja is an interior designer based in San Francisco, known for creating spaces that are refined, personal, and just a little unexpected. Before founding her namesake studio, she co-led Blue Lamp Interiors for over a decade—managing everything from quick refreshes to full-scale home transformations. And in a past life? She was an aesthetic dentist with a meticulous eye and a soft spot for symmetry.

Her process is rooted in listening, layered with curiosity, and never afraid of a twist—whether it’s a bold piece of art or a reimagined heirloom. Clients love her warm, fun, and collaborative approach, and they love her ability to blend classic design with a bit of edge. Her secret weapon? An obsession with chairs, textures, and unexpected color pairings. And the ability to be inspired by Indian and Western styles.

She lives in San Francisco with her husband, two kids and two dogs, James & Hobbes. She loves traveling, reading, swimming, classic rock, and 90’s rap music. These days, she is also trying her hand at pickleball and mahjong.

Chetna Q&A

  • Matching everything too perfectly. A little tension—whether it’s texture, tone, or scale—makes a room more interesting.

  • Doors, chairs, layered tilework, and museum walls. Also… my dogs, food, and occasionally a beautiful mess.

  • Probably making travel plans I may or may not take, catching up on design trends, and taking a long walk with my dogs—bonus points if we end up at a gallery or somewhere with good light and great chairs.

  • From the start of our project, Chetna was easy to work with. She took plenty of time to tour our whole house to get a sense of our style and learn how we use our space. Subsequently, she brought so many beautiful samples for us to choose from – it was such a fun process and completely manageable. Chetna has a Rolodex chock-full of invaluable resources that I never could have found on my own.

  • Chetna took time to listen and understand my tastes. Her proposed options were stunning and included a range of choices. She worked in some truly unique pieces and incorporated some of mine. Chetna has impeccable taste and a fantastic sense of humor. Can’t wait to start our second floor renovations with her next year!

  • Working with Chetna to remodel our home was a perfect fit. She took the time to understand our style and needs. What impressed me most was Chetna’s communication and professionalism—every decision was explained clearly, timelines were met, and she handled challenges with creativity and grace.
